Frequently Asked Questions
I have a monthly subscription membership but I still see prices on the schedule. Is something wrong?
Not at all. The price you see is the drop-in rate for Basic memberships. Once you log in, you will be able to book your available sessions at no cost.
Can I pay at the door?
Typically not. We do not generally accept funds during check-in so that everyone can move in and get going as quickly as possible. You can book or check-in to an active session from your phone or computer at any time.
What is the dress code?
When approaching the studio, please dress with decency as there are other businesses nearby. Once inside the studio, you may dress to your level of comfort as long as all genitals and female-presenting nipples are covered.
There may be theme nights in which a certain style of dress is encouraged, which will be noted in the description for those events.
What should I wear to tie or be tied?
Whatever is comfortable for you! That said, many people being tied prefer comfortable form-fitting clothing that won’t bunch up and cause pressure points when in rope. Leggings, bodysuits, and similar items are quite popular.
For those who are doing the tying, anything comfortable is fine.
What should I bring?
Other than rope and supplies, you may consider bringing a closed lid water bottle, something soft to tie on, and a light blanket - some people feel cold when coming out of rope. The studio does have a small selection of padded mats available. Various drinks are also for sale, and there’s a complimentary filtered water dispenser for your bottle.
Can I choose who gets the scholarship spots with my Benefactor Membership?
Scholarships are allocated by the studio on a case-by-case basis to keep the system from being abused as a “guest pass” workaround. If you have a friend in need of a scholarship spot, please have them contact the studio for assistance.
How safe is shibari?
Rope play is a risk-aware activity which can potentially lead to injury. That being said, the risk can be greatly mitigated through education, instruction, responsibility, and communication.
Who can do shibari?
We believe that rope is for everybody and for every body. That being said, please be aware of your own physicality and participate accordingly.
Do I have to participate?
No. Consent is a cornerstone of rope play and a core value of Shibari Studios. You will never be required to do anything that you do not wish to do. If you do feel coerced, pressured, or that your consent has been violated, please reach out to the studio immediately.
The exception to this policy is habitual lurking. We do not allow perpetual voyeurism or any other behavior that may make participants uncomfortable. While it’s fine to watch others tie, we do not allow attendees with no intention to ever participate.
